Hero 32 Echo has finally arrived on the Overwatch PTR servers and shes a Damage character!
Echo has been hinted at and speculated upon for ages now, appearing in early versions of the game’s artwork and the Reunion cinematic it was always apparent we would have the opportunity to play Echo at some stage. What did come as a bit of a surprise is that she came out as a DPS character, not a healer as most people expected.
With Blizzard having server issues and players experiencing dropouts and lag like its the 90s now more than ever Overwatch players need something to get excited about, so let’s take a look at Echo and her abilities. Will she deliver on the hype?
As described by Blizard, Echo is “a sleek, cyclopean omnic”. The brainchild of Dr. Mina Liao who was invited to join the Overwatch team as a leading expert in A.I, Echo became Dr. Liao’s parting gift to the world.
Tri-Shot: Fires 3 shots at once, in a triangle pattern.
Sticky Bombs: Fires a volley of sticky bombs that detonates after a delay.
Flight: Surges forward quickly, then can fly freely.
Focusing Beam: Channels a beam for a few seconds, dealing very high damage to targets with less than half health.
Glide: Glide while falling.
Echo’s ultimate is perhaps the most interesting in the game, Duplicate.
Duplicate: Duplicates a targeted enemy hero and gains use of their abilities.
This not only lets you turn yourself into any enemy hero but also allows you to build and use that characters Ult at an alarming rate. In the clip below from well-known healer main ML7 you can see he Duplicates the enemy Rein and is able to reel of 2 Hammer Downs in the space of several seconds.
As when any new character is added to the roster it’s going to take some time for Blizzard to get the balance just right, but for now Echo plays and feels amazing! She is an amalgamation of all the support characters if they turned hardcore DPS, think battle Mercy with Moira’s Ult as a cooldown plus sticky bombs.
Get on the PTR now and have a play, I think Echo is going to be a fun play for DPS and Healer mains alike.
